A Way in the Wilderness

Ready

“For I am about to do something new.   See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” -- Isaiah 43:19

Set

It’s easy to get caught in the thistles and thrash our way into a complete standstill.

Sometimes, it feels like we’re circling a barren land, stuck in a rut of wrong ways and unknowns. We play each week by ear in an ever-shifting season, wondering if we’ll get our practices and games in. Or, we’re the only one on our team who loves Jesus, and we wonder how long we can say in an environment that doesn’t welcome Him. And if we have one more loss, our job or spot is in jeopardy and we may not even make it through the season.

What can we do when we’re surrounded by the unfortunate and there doesn’t seem to be any direction of where to go? How do we keep moving when every inch of us is tempted to throw in the towel and give up?

We keep going and stretch our faith just a little farther. We fix our eyes on the One who has always given us the way out. We look to Him who holds the end from the beginning, and we try to match our stride with His.

  • God makes a way in the wilderness.
  • He breathes dry bones into life.
  • He glides upon the water in the middle of the stormy sea.
  • God always comes through.

We can trust His ways, for they are good, and He has never let His people down in all of history. It is His story, after all. Sometimes, it’s in those moments where we can’t see what’s coming where He does His best work. Light shines brightest in the dark, and God’s grace shines all the more when we have nothing else but Him.

Things may look bleak, but God is breaking through. We may be hard-pressed, but not crushed; perplexed, but we are not in despair. We may even be struck down, but by the cross of Christ, we will never be destroyed!

Where are you putting your hope today? In a season that could be gone in a second? In the whims of humankind? Why put your trust in what can never save? Let’s switch our allegiance to a stronger hope.

Call out to God. Keep your eyes and heart on the lookout for His movement in your life. He is there. He is making a way. He is bringing the light.

Go
  • Where have you been looking for help instead of looking to God?
  • How do you need God to make a way for you today?
  • Find a promise in the Bible and memorize it, and believe God to come through.

Overtime

“Lord, thank You that You always make a way. Thank You that You are trustworthy, and I can fully depend on You. This is a hard season, but You are with me and I am believing You will light my path. Give me more of You, please. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
